Carving Necks

Carving a guitar neck is without doubt an art. It takes patience and practice. Here we turn some chunks of wood into guitar necks.

A neck blank is first jointed to make one side perfectly flat, then thickness planed

Jigs are used to make surfaces perfectly angled

With the traditional RS truss rod, a wood fillet is glued to hold it in place

Carving the back of the neck starts with a spokeshave, proceeds with rasps, and concludes with lots and lots of sanding.

Necks paired up with their fretboards — more about that later
